Elections

Besides Park City, the only other primary election contest in the county yesterday took place in Coalville, where six candidates vied to run for Mayor.

The candidate with the most voites in that contest led the pack by nearly 100 votes. But the second-place finisher, and three other candidates, were separated from each other by razor-thin margins. Rick Brough has more.

Preliminary election results are in for the Park City Council Race.

After the polls closed on Tuesday evening and votes were tallied, the four city council candidates who will proceed to the November general municipal election were determined as announced by senior recorder and election official Sharon Bauman..  Those are incumbents Alex Butwinski and Cindy Matsumoto, as well as political newcomers, Tim Henney and Mary Wintzer.

Incumbent Park City council person Cindy Matsumoto says she’s seeking re-election because she finds being on city council challenging, exciting, and interesting, and that her experience and involvement in the community, make her a viable candidate. Lynn Ware Peek has more.

Twenty-one-year Park City resident Tim Henney is one of six candidates vying for one of two seats on the Park City Council. He says he has the time and energy to serve and thinks he can kick-start a conversation to lead the town's evolution. KPCW's Leslie Thatcher has more.

Alex Butwinski says he should be elected to a second four year term on Park City Council because he has the experience, the involvement with the community, and the ability to help the Council finish the tasks they're working on. Rick Brough has more.

Early voting is underway for the Park City Council race, and the primary election will move four of the six candidates forward to the November elections. One of those vying for one of two council seats is longtime Park City resident and Bonanza Park property owner, Mary Wintzer. Lynn Ware Peek has more.

Four of the six candidates running for Park City Council answered questions about how they feel about the issues on the Local News Hour with Leslie Thatcher.  Here are the interviews in their entirety.

Early voting ends Friday, August 9 at 5PM and held at theMarsac East Conference Room of City Hall, 445 Marsac Avenue in Park City.

(The abridged news stories for each of the candidates can be found in the News tab under 2013 Elections.)

Two of the six candidates running for Park City council don't appear to be very interested in the race. Neither Lisa Wilson nor Bill McKenna have showed up for an on-air interview with KPCW - nor have they returned repeated email and phone call requests. As KPCW's Leslie Thatcher reports, city taxpayers will still pick up the costs to hold a primary that maybe didn't need to happen.
