Kelleen Potter-Heber City Mayor

Heber City residents voted in a new mayor in November.  They want her to change how the city government communicates and deals with growth issues.  Carolyn Murray has this:

An agreement was signed between Heber Light and Power and Rocky Mountain Power in April to install high voltage transmission lines through the Heber Valley and in to a new substation to be located in Midway.  In recent weeks, 2000 people have signed a petition asking the agencies and local authorities to put a hold on the project while the public has a chance to weigh in.  Carolyn Murray has this:  

The Wasatch Back Narcotics Enforcement Team received an anonymous tip about gambling machines operating in Heber Businesses.  The police investigation shows that Latino businesses were targeted by individuals offering owners 30 percent of revenues generated by the machines.  The Heber City Police Department, in conjunction with an undercover joint task force, has shut down two gambling operations in Heber.  No arrests have been made.  Carolyn Murray has this report:

Kelleen Potter defeated incumbent Alan McDonald in Heber City's race for mayor Tuesday night.  Potter won with 1,437 votes to McDonald's 1,015.   Potter is a former high school teacher who also served as the State Elections Director under Governor Mike Leavitt.   She was elected to Heber's City Council in 2013.   Prior to serving as mayor, McDonald served a full term on Heber's City Council.

With the help of several grants, the People's Health Clinic will be opening a satellite office in Heber City after the start of the new year. KPCW's Leslie Thatcher has more.

Last Saturday, more than a thousand people gathered in Monticello, Utah for the memorial service of staff Sgt. Aaron Butler – who was killed August 16th serving a combat mission in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, the soldier’s youngest sibling, Adam, drove back alone to his new home in Heber City – and was welcomed with an outpouring of love and support from the community. Leslie Thatcher has more.
