Mayor Beerman Sends Letter Condemning Zero-Tolerance Policy To Utah Representatives

Park City Mayor Andy Beerman has sent a letter to Park City’s Congressional Representatives urging them to challenge the Trump Administrations Zero-Tolerance illegal immigration policy.

Mayor Beerman’s one-page letter was sent to Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and Senator Mike Lee. The letter was also sent to Utah’s 1st Congressional District Representative Rob Bishop.

The letter was sent on Monday and asks representatives to not only addresses issues at the U.S. Mexico border, but also mentions the concern over the unresolved citizen status for those individuals who fall under the umbrella of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, often called “Dreamers”.

Mayor Beerman in part says of Park City “We have a vibrant cross section of Latinos who are valued members of our community. Their families make up at least a quarter of our population and make our community a better place to live by their contributions.”

Mayor Beerman also urged representatives to “provide the administrative tools to our Federal Agencies to conduct their immigration policies in a humane and decent way.”

Mayor Beerman’s letter comes after the Summit County Council passed a resolution last week also urging congress to stop the separation of families at the U.S. Mexico borders.
