A 45-year old Kamas man was found dead in his car at about 12:30 A.M. January 1st. Summit County Sheriff’s office do not suspect foul play or suicide.
Summit County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Andrew Wright says they are still waiting to notify the man’s family before releasing the deceased man’s name. According to Wright, he has no family in Utah, but they have verified a sister in California whom they are trying to confirm as next of kin.
The deceased man’s roommates and neighbors told the Sheriff’s Deputy investigating the case that it was common for him to sit in his parked car in the neighborhood.
“He rented a room and had a couple of roommates in the home in Kamas and it sounds like it was fairly common for him to go out into his car to get maybe a little bit of private time to himself. They said that it was normal for him to go sit in his car.”
They do not know when he passed away, but the report indicates people saw him in the car as early as 7:30 P.M. on New Year’s Eve. A number of hours had passed, and a neighbor checked on him and discovered he was deceased.
Someone saw him get in his car and go park in the on the side of the road by the home where he does live which is the area that he usually does this and he had mentioned sometime around 7:30 ish PM so you know we're talking probably five hours that he was in the car. Don't know at what point he actually passed but he was there for several hours with the car running.”
Wright says they are waiting for a report from the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death. They are treating the death as a medical incident at this point. The sheriff’s report says the man had recently complained to his roommates of some health concerns and they had encouraged him to see a doctor.
