Carrig Returns To Repeat Transition Procedures

Vail Buys Park City Mountain Resort

After a 20-year run operating Park City Mountain Resort, the resort's owner Powdr Corp. sold its flagship ski area for $182.5 million to Vail Resorts today. Leslie Thatcher has more.

While it’s something he never hoped to do, John Cumming the CEO of Powdr Corp. emailed the sale announcement just five minutes before the news of the acquisition came from Vail Resorts headquarters.

Now, instead of paying out $17.5 million required by the bond that set by the judge in order to operate this winter, Powdr Corp. will have nine times that amount in its bank account.

SOLD!

Powdr Corp. has sold it's flagship resort, Park City Mountain Resort to Vail Resorts, effectively immediately. This includes the base area, the parking lots, lower ski terrain, chairlifts as well as the water and snowmaking for the entire mountain. A purchase price wasn't reported.The agreement stipulates that Vail must retain PCMR employees in their current roles.

It's $17.5 Million To Operate Hill As PCMR This Winter

In a hearing Friday afternoon, Third District Court Judge Ryan Harris ruled Park City Mountain Resort has to post $17.5 million to keep operating this ski season, and to use the 3,000-acre ski mountain owned by Talisker.The judge ruled the bond has to be posted by the end of next week, on Friday, September 12.
