Summit County Manager Tom Fisher says that every summer, local emergency managers are concerned about fire hazards. But it's especially a concern this year with low snowfall and drought conditions returning, above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. Rick Brough has more:

  Summit County Manager, Tom Fisher gives a preview of  Wednesday's County Council meeting beginning at 11:30 with the Summit Bike Share launch at the KImball Junction Transit Center . They go into closed session at 1 pm and begin the work session at 3:10 pm in the Sheldon Richin's Building auditorium. Students Faith Staley and Adam Herbst talk about the upcoming gun debate scheduled for May 31st.  They've invited political candidates for the discussion in the hope of creating a civilized dialogue on the topic of Gun Control.

The Summit County staff last month heard from an audience of upset land owners in the Garff Ranch neighborhood. Next week, the county council is scheduled to pick up the issue. Rick Brough has the story:

President Donald Trump has ordered National Guard troops to protect the nation's border with Mexico. But Summit County Manager Tom Fisher, a brigadier general in the Utah National Guard, thinks border states will be more affected by the order, as Rick Brough reports:

A large amount of Summit County's acreage is federal land upon which the county maintains roads and enforces laws. That's why the county receives what is called a payment in lieu of taxes, or PILT, every year from the U.S. government. Rick Brough has more:
