IHC Presents Programs to Fight Opioid Abuse

The Park City Hospital hosted an Opioid discussion, lead by IHC’s President and CEO, Wednesday evening.  The presentation included disturbing statistics about drug and alcohol use in the Park City School District. IHC announced what it plans to do to become a change agent in this epidemic of abuse.  Carolyn Murray has this:

On this year anniversary of the deaths of two Park City 8th graders, significant changes have occurred in the Park City School District. In a recent presentation to the Park City Rotary Club, District Superintendent Ember Conley highlighted the lessons learned and the efforts being made to address mental health and substance abuse.  Carolyn Murray has more:

The Utah Legislature has passed an Opioid Prescription Bill, HB 90, in both houses and it’s now waiting to be signed by the Governor. HB 50, a second Opioid prescription bill has passed in the house but is in committee waiting to go to the senate for a vote. Carolyn Murray has been tracking both bills and has this:

After two Treasure Mountain Junior High School 8th graders died from a synthetic opiate overdose in September, Park City High School Journalism students, Jordan Blake and Jenny Burgess decided to get involved.  Carolyn Murray has more on this:

Utah Legislature Considers Opiate Prescription Bills

There are a number of Drug Bills this legislative session at the State Capitol.  With the high rate of addiction and overdose in Utah, one physician legislator in particular is working to get a bill passed that would increase regulation on Opioid prescription practices. Carolyn Murray has more:

There’s a Utah petition through Change.org calling for support of drug treatment funding for opiate addiction.  It’s asking the House Committee on Health and Human services for 500 thousand dollars from the state alcohol tax fund to help cover drug treatment costs for many people who can’t otherwise access it.   Carolyn Murray has more. 

On Friday, Summit County Third District Juvenile Court heard motions in the case involving a Park City teenager who is charged with distributing a controlled or counterfeit  substance and reckless endangerment related to the September overdose deaths of Grant Seaver and Ryan Ainsworth. There’s an epidemic of opiate abuse and overdose in Utah and Park City School District, along with Valley Behavioral Health are inviting parents, students and the general community to come to the Lunch and Learn on Wednesday to hear about ways to combat this problem.  Carolyn Murray has more:

There’s been a surge of activism around mental health issues in the Park City community following the drug overdose deaths of two 8th Grade Boys. The school district, along with the city and county have combined efforts to address mental health, substance abuse and at risk youth. Carolyn Murray has more.

Since the deaths of the two boys from Treasure Mountain Junior high, Park City School District Superintendent, Dr. Ember Conley has been approached by many concerned leaders and groups throughout the community. They want to be a part of the efforts to implement meaningful and effective drug prevention measures.
