It’s been a dry, warm winter so far this season.  We’ve had persistent high pressure settling in over most of the Western states, and snow enthusiasts are looking to the long-range forecast for the hope of a break in this pattern.  Carolyn Murray has this report:

On today's show, Chris and Nell speak first with Brian McInerney of the National Weather Service.  Brian will summarize this fall's temperatures and precipitation and review 2017 as a whole, one of the warmest years on record.  In the second part of the show, Nate Brown of the Audubon Society talks about the results of this year's Christmas Bird Count, including Summit County observations and how bird types and populations are changing as our region warms and habitats shrink.

Summit County Attorney Margaret Olson will be in to talk about how important it is to show up for jury duty and a recent case where no-shows caused a mistrial for an important case out of the Uintah Basin. Then National Weather Service Meteorologist Brian McInerney looks ahead at the new year and whether we should expect high pressure systems, that have been blocking storms coming to Utah, to continue into 2018.

On today's program, Summit County Planner Sean Lewis previews the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission meeting. National Weather Service Hydrologist Brian McInerney talks snow. Ollie Wilder and Mike Ruzek from the Park City Community Foundation have totals from Friday's record breaking Live PC Give PC. Thad McGowen and Kelly Third have details on Tuesday's Nakuru Hope Fundraiser and Park City resident Emma Garrad talks about her third place finish in the Xterra World Championships.

The weather-watchers at the National Weather Service are guarding against the hazards that come after the fires are put out---that is, flash floods or debris slides when heavy rainfall hits the slopes denuded by fire. Rick Brough has more.
