Former Salt Lake City Mayor and women’s ski jumping pioneer and Park City resident Deedee Corradini died Sunday following a short battle with cancer.

Deedee Corradini served as the mayor of Salt Lake City from 1992 to 2000.  She was the only female to serve as Mayor of Salt Lake.  Corradini was a pivotal force in the Olympic bid to bring the Olympics to Salt Lake in 2002. Corradini played a vital role in the successful organization of the Games and was a key face of the Utah Olympics.  More recently, Corradini led the charge to bring  women’s ski jumping to the Olympic Games.

History was made in the 2014 Sochi Olympics when the world's women ski jumpers got to compete on the Olympic stage for the first time.  As KPCW's Leslie Thatcher reports, for those who helped make it happen, it was a dream come true.

As 30 women made their Olympic debut in last Tuesday's ski jumping competition, one Park City resident who helped make that happen breathed a sigh of relief. And now she has her sights set on opening the large hill to women too. KPCW's Leslie Thatcher reports.
