Utah Outdoor Summit Set For May 8

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert outdoor recreation director says he will hold a Utah Outdoor Summit to leverage the economic potential of the state's wild and spectacular lands.

Brad Petersen has been busy during his first 90 days on the job. He's in charge of promoting Utah's $5.8 billion outdoor-recreation economy and aligning the state's 600 gear manufacturers and distributors. His job is unique among federal, state and local governments.

Petersen briefed legislators Wednesday. He has set up an advisory board that meets monthly and is planning a round table discussion on December 9 for the governor and company chief executives.

The Utah Outdoor Summit will bring together industry, government, and consumer groups on May 8.

Peterson was an executive for a group of outdoor brands and has been a professional wilderness, river and ski guide in Utah.
