Two Wildfires Still Burning Near Strawberry Reservoir

A Blackhawk helicopter joined firefighting efforts near Strawberry Reservoir Monday. The Soldier Creek Fire and Trout Creek Fire started Sunday on the east side of Highway 40 and have burned hundreds of acres. Fire crews responded quickly Sunday to keep the blaze from moving across the road. Uinta Wasatch Cache National Forest Public Affairs Specialist Kathy Pollock says the wind picked up Monday afternoon and the fire is burning brush, sage, and aspens. She added that the helicopter is dumping water on the fire, which is causing a lot of smoke. Firefighters suspect the fires are human caused. Hunting camps in the area were evacuated Sunday, but those evacuation orders were lifted Monday. The Trout Creek Fire has burned 260 acres and is 20% contained. The Soldier Creek Fire has burned 143 acres and is 40% contained. No one has been injured, and no structures have been damaged in the fires.
