Superintendent of Park City Schools, Dr. Ember Conley, said a first grader brought an Airsoft gun to school with the "intent to harm an individual." KPCW's Renai Bodley has the story:
Below is the full email Dr. Conley sent to Trailside parents Friday, December 2, 2016
This morning (December 2, 2016), a first-grade Trailside student brought an Airsoft gun (a replica gun which shoots plastic projectiles) to school. The student showed it to other students, who then reported it to adults.
The student then admitted bringing the Airsoft gun to school and it was handed over to Principal Robin Williams. The student’s mother was called, along with Officer Taylor from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office . Appropriate Safe Schoolspolicies have been followed.
Principal Robin Williams reassured the students involved and thanked them for reporting this issue.
Please be assured we take incidents like this -- even though it was a replica gun -- very seriously. Students were never in any danger because of this specific circumstance, but we understand that the situation may have been frightening for them. Continue to encourage your children to come forward to trusted adults with any concerns they have. We congratulate the students who came forward today.
