Summit County Primary Election Results

Summit County voters chose Mitt Romney as their Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, and Lee Castillo as their Democratic candidate for U.S House District 1 in Tuesday's primary election.  Romney will face Democrat Jenny Wilson in the race for retiring Senator Orrin Hatch's seat.  Castillo defeated Kurt Weiland and will go up against incumbent Republican Rob Bishop in November.   For State Senate District 26, Democrat Eileen Gallagher defeated Pat Vaughn.  She will face Republican Ronald Winterton in the race for retiring Sen. Kevin Van Tassell's seat.  And Park City resident Jack Rubin won big in Summit County in the Republican race for State Senate District 26, but could not make up for the deficit created by Winterton's big wins in Uintah and Duchesne Counties.

Voter turnout in Summit County was 39% of registered voters, with 5,095 ballots counted.
