Steven Holcomb Inducted into USABSA Hall of Fame

Ten USA Bobsled & Skeleton athletes were honored at the annual awards banquet on Saturday at the Lake Placid Olympic Conference Center. One of them included Park City’s Steven Holcomb, who was inducted under special circumstances.

The induction of Holcomb to the Hall of Fame both highlighted and concluded the evening. Holcomb passed away unexpectedly on May 6, and he became the first inductee to have the Hall of Fame's 10-year clause waived. Bobsled and Skeleton spokeswoman told KPCW Kristen Gowdy that athletes must be out of the sport for 10 years before they can be considered for the Hall of Fame.  She says the Hall of Fame Selection Committee voted to waive that requirement.

Additionally Saturday, Holcomb earned the Men's Bobsled Athlete of the Year award for his performance in the 2016-2017 season, which included five World Cup medals and a fifth-place finish in the four-man World Championships in Germany.
