KPCW, Park City’s community radio station, has scheduled four special programs for this holiday season.
The NPR affiliate will broadcast a Chanukkah program, narrated by Leonard Nimoy, on the fifth night of the eight-night holiday, Saturday. Then on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, KPCW will honor the holiday with a variety of choral programs.
The full lineup of holiday programs are:
Chanukkah in Story and Song 2014 – Saturday, December 20 at 6:00 PM
Narrated by Leonard Nimoy, and sung by the The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble, this program presents 25 eclectic selections, from the Ladino songs of the Spanish Jews and Yiddish melodies of Eastern Europe, to modern Israeli tunes and the ensemble's original version of "I Have a Little Dreydle."
Welcome Christmas – Wednesday, December 24 at 7:00 PM
American Public Media’s program is a tribute to the late David Brubeck this year, by the Vocal Essence choral group lead by Philip Brunelle. The group will play holiday classics old and new, and all of them joyful.
Music & The Spoken Word Christmas Specials – Thursday, December 25 at 9 AM
Two back-to-back specials: The first, features Tom Brokaw and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir ‘s "Christmas in the Air," at Temple Square in 2012. The second, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square 2002 presentation of “One Silent Night.” With an inspiring Christmas story from World War I, narrated by legendary newscaster, the late Walter Cronkite.
Light & Gold: The Music of Eric Whitacre – Thursday, December 25 at 10 AM
Eric Whitacre is America’s most popular composer today, and his choral works are beloved by choirs throughout the world. In this one-hour program, he introduces the music with co-host Brian Newhouse, and describes the often colorful backstory of how each piece came to be.
