SLC Airport Closed

UDOT Commuterlink

UPDATE:

The airport is reporting that two of three air carrier runways are now open. They still recommend checking with your airline regarding flight status.

ORIGINAL STORY
Salt Lake International Airport is closed due to ice on the runways.  The airport is working to make the runways safe but the report is that the ice has compromised the braking action of planes so all runways are closed.

The Salt Lake Valley was hit by freezing rain and now snow on top of it, affecting traffic throughout the valley.  Semis coming East-bound into Parleys Canyon now need chains, and chains or four wheel drive are required in the Cottonwood Canyons.

Also, where Hwy 201 joins I-215, which is an alternate route to the airport, power lines have come down over the freeway and that intersection is closed.

KPCW will keep you updated through the morning on traffic and airport conditions... but the official word now is that the airport is shut down due to ice.
