The Quinn’s Junction Water Treatment site is in need of some upgrades.
Engineers say they need an additional $675,000.00, more than doubling their prior contract amount to upgrade filters, lower energy costs and improve consumption.
City manager Diane Foster said it’s a reasonable request and that the staff at the plant have been dealing with multiple issues that are causing problems – hindering their progress.
“In addition the other piece that we’ve been having turbidity issues," Foster said. "What that means is when stuff gets stirred up, you get a lot more crud in the water and you have to clean that out. The staff has had some occasions where they’ve had to shut down the treatment plant based on turbidity issues."
She said the project also includes some energy management upgrades.
Foster said the staff is currently working on an evaluation on how best to deal with the water from the Judge tunnel.
“The early indications are that if we send the Judge water down to Quinn’s, that we’d have to pump it back up," Foster said. "And you know city council has a net zero goal both for the city as well as the community and that has a significant impact on our net-zero goals.”
She said water is expensive in Park City and that they’re looking at what makes sense both environmentally as well as to the tax payer.
