Park City Magazine Looks For New Editor

Park City Magazine

The Park City Magazine has been around for more than 4 decades now.  It started as the Lodestar, founded by long-time Park City resident, Jan Wilking.  The look and feel of the journal is quite different with this edition thanks to the design work under the leadership of current editor, Melissa Fields. Carolyn Murray has this:

Park City Magazine Editor, Melissa Fields just finished publishing the Summer/Fall edition.  She’s been with the magazine for five years and plans to venture into free-lance writing hoping to still be a contributor to the publication.   The changes to the magazine were inspired by a fairly simple observation made by Fields about a year and a half ago.

She worked with the Portland based company headquarters that owns Park City Magazine and began to negotiate changes to the look and layout.

“In our offices we have a big magazine rack and I was just looking outside my office and the former Park City Logo just, you know all the other like Hustonia and Seattlemet and Aspen Soujourner..you know are very visible and pop out at you.  Park City Magazine was this thin font, sort of Wells Fargo..ish…you know a lot of times magazines will hire outside agencies to design the cover logo or the flag as it’s called in the industry but we did it all internally.”

Fields thinks the magazine looks modern and more reflective of Park City’s direction.

Fields says she’s hoping to transition from the Editor role by mid-July but has agreed to stay on until her replacement is found.

“I’m actually just going back to free-lance writing and exploring some marketing copy writing, some grant writing in addition to free-lance writing hopefully for Park City Magazine moving forward and other outlets in Utah..”

Her final edition includes a feature she wrote called Must Love Dogs. She writes about dog friendly trails, summer tips for care along with training your dog to stay clear of Rattlesnakes.

We had previously gotten our dog the rattle snake vaccine  which supposedly buys you time if your dog gets bitten by a rattlesnake but because those vaccines are developed in California, the snakes there are a little different than Utah snakes so, she recommended rattle snake  aversion training.  My dog and I actually did it and hopefully she’ll stay away from snakes when we’re on the trail.”

You can get a subscription on line or pick it up for free at a number of local places.
