Miss Billie Passes Away

Originally aired April 22, 2013.

Park City's long time educator and day care provider Billie Koleman died Saturday of natural causes.

Billie Koleman - know affectionately in town by the thousands of children she tended over the years as "Miss Billie" - was 84. She and her husband Ike lived just off Highway 224 since the mid 1970s. The house has since been torn down, and is the current location of Summit Community Gardens.

Miss Billie was born in Ohio and lived in Miami and Chicago before making her way to Park City. She worked as a flight attendant before she married her college sweatheart, Ike Koleman. She graduated with a degree in education.

She opened one of Park City's first day cares in 1975 - first known as Raggedy Andy and later changed to Miss Billie's Kid Kampus - and operated it until she retired in 1996.

Miss Billie's family hosted a celebration of her life at the family home in Park West Village on Monday. The family estimates that Miss Billie tended more than 3,000 children over the years.
