KPCW Nominated For National Award

KPCW has been nominated for the second year in a row for the radio industry’s most prestigious award.  The National Association of Broadcasters Tuesday named the Park City community station one of five finalists for the Marconi Award for “overall excellence in broadcasting.”

The Marconi is awarded in 20 categories each year.  KPCW is nominated in the “Non-commercial Station of the Year” category.  The station received the same nomination last year as well.  In addition, KPCW for the past two years has been a finalist for the NAB’s Crystal Award for Public Service in Broadcasting, which honors public radio stations for their service to their audiences and communities.

“This latest Marconi nomination, coupled with last year’s and the two Crystal Award nominations really drive home the value of KPCW to the Park City and Summit and Wasatch County communities,” said KPCW Board of Trustees Chair Bob Richer.  “KPCW has become one of the most recognized community stations in the United States for its commitment to the communities it serve with news, public affairs and entertainment programming.”

“I am so proud of the staff and volunteers who make KPCW such a valuable part of the day for our listeners,” KPCW President and General Manager Larry Warren said.  “They are the heart and soul of what is one of Park City’s most valuable institutions.”

KPCW is celebrating its 35th year on the air this year.  It relies on listener contributions, underwriting announcements, and both private and government grants to fund its operations.  It produces 16 hours of live programming every day, broadcasting local news, event announcements, news of nonprofit organization activities and music.  In addition, KPCW broadcasts live community forums, concerts and produces community events such as the KPCW/Cole Sport Back Alley Birthday Bash which will take place August 21st at Town Lift Plaza beginning at 5 p.m.

The winner of this year’s Marconi Award for Non-commercial Station of the Year will be announced at a gala awards dinner at the National Radio Show in Atlanta in October.
