Heber Valley Resident Inducted Into Utah Cowboy Hall Of Fame

Brent Kelly is being inducted to the Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame this July. On June 8 he was announcing the Utah High School State Rodeo Finals in Ogden as he’s done every year for 31 years. Brent’s son Jason announces rodeo with him and surprised his dad that evening.

“Jason read a little tribute to me and told everyone I was being inducted into the Utah Cowboy Hall of fame. That was probably one of the greatest thrills of my life.” Kelly said of the evening “I noticed in the stands my fans and a lot of friends were there. It’s an honor to announce the high school finals every year because I just love these kids”

Brent Kelly got his start in rodeo when he was on BYU’s rodeo team. After college he joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association but didn’t have a lot of success “I was a calf-roper in the PRCA and every time I would go to a rodeo I’d get beat. I thought, I need to do something that when I finish the rodeo I’m going to get paid for it”

Kelly became a rodeo announcer after encouragment from his mother. He is a member of the PRCA and The Rocky Mountain Rodeo Professional Association where he has been awarded announcer of the year multiple times. He said announcing goes hand and hand with his work as an auctioneer.

Kelly also announces at the Utah High School National Finals, held this year in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Kelly will be accompanied by his granddaughter McKardy Kelly, who will compete in the national rodeo queen competition representing Utah.

Kelly says it’s an honor to be inducted into the hall. “I’m just humbled by doing it, because there’s a lot of people that deserve it by me, but I’m overwhelmed with that honor”
