Heber Man Arrest For Theft From Company

A former Heber Light & Power employee has been arrested on a second degree felony for allegedly charging more than $100,000 on the company's credit card.

The Wasatch Wave is reporting that 54-year-old Anthony L. Furness of Heber City used a company credit card to pay for personal expenses between 2010 and 2013. Citing court documents from the Attorney General's office, Furness was the company's chief financial officer between 2006 and 2013. He allegedly concealed the personal charges by submitting expense account statements and claiming the charges were business related.

The activity was noticed almost a year ago by the company's general manager, who saw large miscellaneous expenses, which prompted an investigation and later an audit. According to the court documents, Furness admitted that he was making personal charges, but that his general manager had approved it.

Furness was arrested and booked in the Wasatch County jail on one count of Theft By Deception - a second degree felony. He posted the $15,000 cash bail and was released. His first court appearance is April 2.
