Dynamite Discovery Forces Old Town Evacuation

Mar 26, 2018

A portion of old town was evacuated Monday after an excavator working on a home in Old Town came across some sticks of dynamite.

The dynamite, which appears to be from the mining era, was found in the foundation area of the house at 911 Empire Avenue just before 10 a.m.  Park City Police Captain Phil Kirk says safety precautions were put into effect immediately - first by calling the bomb squad.  Police evacuated the area from Crescent Street to 12th Avenue, and between Lowell Avenue and Empire Avenue.

The evacuation was lifted on at 1:25pm and residents were allowed to return to their homes.  The Unified Fire Authority Bomb Squad safely removed the dynamite from the area.
