Wasatch County's police officers and other staff are maxed out at the Rainbow Gathering, taking place in the Uintah Forest east of Heber and the event is expected to reach its peak on the Fourth. Rick Brough has more.
UINTA NATIONAL FOREST, Utah (AP) - A county jail easy of Salt Lake City is nearly full in part because of the influx of thousands of people for the Rainbow Family gathering.
KSL-TV reports that Wasatch County Sheriff's officials say a third of the prisoners in the 100-person jail are from the gathering, which has brought 5,900 people to the area in a four-day celebration of love and peace.
Chief Deputy Jared Rigby says deputies are working non-stop to monitor the happenings at the gathering. Rigby says one recently married deputy had to cancel his honeymoon.
As KPCW first reported, the Rainbow Family of living light world peace and healing gathering is headed back to northern Utah - this time to the Uintah National Forest outside of Heber City. KPCW's Leslie Thatcher has this update.
