The City Invites Public Comment At Open House

City Council hold an open house inviting public comment.

The city set some lofty goals for affordable housing and are inviting public comment.

The city is hosting a public open house on Tuesday,  September 20, 2016 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Park City Library.

Diane Foster is the city manager.

“Last week we got direction from council on lower Park Ave. on what units to do there," Foster said. "And as you heard council member Tim Henney talked about - one of the exciting parts is including accessory units in affordable units.”

She said the city is subsidizing some of the units to provide owners with the ability to have a rental property.

“Staff will be coming back to talk to council about, how are we going to require that they be rented because," Foster said. "We definitely don’t want them to become storage closets or expansion space for a house – we want them to be multi-family homes.”

Foster said council is even considering place a restriction on what a person could charge for rent.

She said these projects are not done overnight but that they are getting proposals from developers as well as professionals from the real estate community about properties that they think make sense for the city to purchase.

“At the end of the day we have $40 million to spend over five years," Foster said. "Council has set a goal of 200 units in the next couple of years and 800 units over the next ten years. We’ve got 400 affordable units in town already but it’s an aggressive goal that we’re going to need the private sector and the public sector to work together to achieve that.”

She said the PC Recreation, in addition to housing, will be at the open house in September to discuss possible renovations.
