Arts Festival Thefts

Kimball Art Center

Park City police are looking to recover stolen items during the Arts Festival this weekend.

The crimes occurred early Sunday morning in the 700 to 800 block of Lower Main Street sometime between 1 and 6 am. Several artist booths were burglarized and vandalized– estimated damages are about 20-thousand dollars. Two of the stolen items are hand carved wood chairs – a unique hand-made jacket was also taken.

Each vendor signs an agreement - in order to participate in the festival - which includes clauses that each artist is solely responsible for any loses. The agreement also provides an outline of the security that the Kimball offers during the festival.

In a statement, art center director Robin Marrouche said her staff is working closely with police - and they are committed to finding the people responsible for the thefts. By Sunday morning she said  they had already discovered key pieces of evidence as well as some of the missing items. The festival she said contracts with a professional security company each year. Even so, artists agree that protecting their work is ultimately their responsibility. Marrouche went on to say, this is a rare, and unfortunate situation - and one she doesn’t take lightly. The Kimball Art Center she said will continue to be proactive in working with the artists, the community and the investigators to solve the crime.

Anyone who may have any information about the vandalism or thefts, or who sees the stolen property is asked to contact police at 435-615-5500.
