2018 Tour of Utah Pushes Race Back a Week

Missing out on the large crowds lining Park City’s Main Street this year, the Tour of Utah has pushed its start date back next year, possibly allowing for the final stage to end in Park City once again.

Next year’s tour - the 14th annual - is scheduled for Monday, August 6 through Sunday, August 12th. The dates had to be approved by the International Cycling Union or UCI – the global governing body of cycling which was done this week.

This year, the tour bypassed Park City because the dates conflicted with the long-standing Kimball Arts Festival that has dibs on Main Street for the first weekend in August.

Known as America’s Toughest Stage Race, the Tour of Utah is one of the premier cycling events for North America.

According to a press release, the new dates will provide a full week for World Teams to travel to the U.S. following next year’s Tour de France, which takes place July 7-29th.

In a prepared statement, John Kimball the recently named Managing Director of the Tour of Utah said they’re working to confirm host cities and new routes for next summer to showcase Utah and the best pro cycling teams in the world.

Jenn Andrs remains as the executive director of the Tour of Utah and oversees day-to-day operations of the event. She told KPCW she didn’t expect to have the specifics of next year’s tour course until late December.

The Tour of Utah is the only North American stage race that offers start-to-finish online coverage.
