In what could be the upset of the night, political newcomer Logan Wilde has eked out a primary win over longtime incumbent Mel Brown for Utah State Houses District 53.
With all districts counted in the multi-county vote for Utah House district 53, Logan Wilde has a narrow win over Mel Brown. But with more votes still to come in before the official canvas July 12th, the results could change. After Tuesday’s vote, Wilder has received 2294 votes or 51% of the vote total compared to Browns 2230 votes – or 49%.
And making national news is the fact that Utah has its first ever trans-gendered democratic candidate for the U-S Senate. Misty K. Snow, a cashier at a grocery store, received 59% of the vote over Jonathan Swinton. She goes on to face republican Mike Lee in November.
Here locally, in two Park city school board races, in Precinct 2, Peter Yogman with 231 votes and Andrew Caplan with 174 votes will move on to November’s election. Eliminated from the race was Catherine Callow Hauser with 117 votes.
In Precinct 3, newcomer Petra Butler and former school board member Moe Hickey will be on November’s ballot. Butler received 239 votes compared to Hickey’s 213. Art Brothers was eliminated from the race with 81 votes.
In the South Summit school board race, Cynthia Card with 88 votes and Dan Eckert with 56 votes will move on. Kat Mitchell with 46 votes will likely be eliminated.
In the Wasatch County council race for Seat B, - the at-large seat - Steve Farrell goes on to November, winning with 1,751 votes over Erik Rowland’s 1,330 votes. For Seat E – the Midway seat – Mark Nelson goes on to November with 473 votes compared to Dan Ivie’s 382 votes. For Seat G - the South County seat - Spencer Park was the top vote getter, with 296 votes over Kipp Bangerter’s 278 and Nick Lopez’s 53 votes
And in the Wasatch County School Board race, Mike Kohler with 470 votes and Tom Hansen with 420 votes will go on to November. Kevin Stocking and Bruce Barnes were eliminated from the race.
In the state school board race for District 7 representing Summit County Carol Barlow-Lear and Shelly Teuscher move on to November. Barlow-Lear received 4603 votes compared to Teuscher’s 2681. And for District 12, representing Wasatch County, Dixie Lee Allen with 9374 votes and Alisa Ellis with 6397 votes move on to the November balloting.
And finally in the governor’s race, Gary Herbert took a commanding lead, winning by more than 100,000 votes over opponent Jonathan Johnson. Herbert won with 165,678 votes compared to Johnson’s 63,978. Herbert goes on to face democrat Mike Weinholtz in November.
