They called him The Golden Boy after his improbable gold medal.  

Hi, this is Tom Kelly and I'll be right back with the story, Behind the Gold.

The early 90's were a rebuilding period for the U.S. Ski Team. Despite breakthrough results at the '92 Olympics, the public wasn't convinced. In fact, sports illustrated dubbed the team "Uncle Sam's lead-footed snowplow brigade." But the athletes knew differently, and the public criticism was a motivator for the entire team.

Anatomy of a Pledge Drive

Twice a year, KPCW takes to the airwaves and asks its listeners for support in bringing daily, original news, information and entertainment focused on Park City, Summit and Wasatch Counties.

But unlike, public radio stations around the country, KPCW has never been satisfied with given a logoed mug, tote bag or fridge magnets. Instead, we collect the support of our local businesses, restaurants and retail outlets - as well as some choice out-of-town venues - to offer listeners an almost dollar-for-dollar value for their donation.
