Ogden Police Crack Down On Idling Cars

OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Ogden police say a wave of preventable car thefts is prompting them to step up enforcement of Utah's anti-idling law.

Police Deputy Director John Harvey says car thefts are on the increase in part because of residents who go out to warm up their vehicles on cold mornings and leave them unattended.

According to the department, 36 of 82 thefts over the last 90 days involved cars that were left running and unattended. Another 34 thefts involved unlocked cars.

Utah Restaurants Fare Better On Underage Drinking

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - State officials say Utah restaurants fared much better last year during covert visits by underage drinkers.

Lt. Troy Marx of the Utah Bureau of Investigation's alcohol enforcement team says restaurants sold to minors of 16% of these visits in 2013. That's down significantly from 29% the year before.

Over 4,000 Rally For Clean Air In Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - More than 4,000 protestors gathered in Salt Lake City on Saturday to press the government to step up the fight against air pollution in Utah.

Some demonstrators wore surgical and gas masks and others waved placards during the rally on the steps of the Capitol. 

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Salt Lake City mayor Ralph Becker reaffirmed his commitment to implementing air-friendly policies, but noted air quality is a regional issue that one city cannot change alone.
