Posted Jul 29, 2008 05:11 PM by KPCW

KPCW News (Park City, UT) The Board of Trustees of Community Wireless of Park City, Inc. confirms that Blair Feulner resigned from the organization on July 15, 2008. Given his resignation, the Board is not currently involved in negotiations regarding a sabbatical or other form of ongoing employment.

"Blair Feulner has done so much for the community by founding KPCW and nurturing it for thirty years into one of the nation’s highest regarded stations." said KPCW Board President Bill Mullen, "While it is always difficult to see a founder and icon step aside, the KPCW team is very strong and fully-staffed, and now we've moved into a great new broadcast center and are truly ready for a 'new day in our new digs'”.

Founded nearly thirty years ago, KPCW is one of the small National Public Radio affiliates and one of the most successful. Market research conducted by Paragon Research, a leading media research firm out of Denver, Colorado, found that nearly seventy percent of the Park City & Summit County community listens to KPCW one or more times a week.

"On behalf of the KPCW staff and Board of Directors, we thank Blair for his many years of hard work, dedication and service. KPCW is one of the institutions that make Park City such a special place to live. We look forward to continued success and an ever deepening commitment to our listeners and supporters in Park City and Summit County.

Snow Creek Project Appeal to be Heard

Posted Jul 29, 2008 05:43 PM by Linda Gorton

A date has been set to hear the appeal of a recent Park City Planning Commission decision approving the master plan development for the snow creek affordable housing project.

Several residents near the proposed project filed the appeal on July 18th saying the commission did not follow the necessary procedures when they made their decision. In particular they say a complete wildlife study was never done and that a height allowance was given without consideration of visual impact as required by the land management code.

The appeal will be heard by the Park City council at their meeting on August 7th.

Tax Rate Hike Planned

Posted Jul 29, 2008 05:39 PM by Linda Gorton

The Park City Fire District is proposing a tax rate increase. In a report from the City Manager’s office, the district is requesting a 22 percent rate hike that translates to about 7 dollars per 100 thousand dollars of assessed valuation.

According to an evaluation from the Insurance Services Office in 2001, the district was deficient in its ability to respond adequately to all covered areas. In order to address that deficiency the fire district built several new stations including one at the Canyons, one in lower Deer Valley and one in Promontory. An additional fire station is planned for Holiday Ranch Loop and the district is also constructing an emergency response facility.

District officials say the rate hike is needed in order to pay for the construction and staffing of the new facilities.

A truth in taxation hearing is set for August 20th at the Fire District Administrative off ices at 736 West Bitner Road at 6:30pm.
